Through the local leader Hon.Grace Kiptui we are able to meet the local communities from Baringo County and also through her The Source Plus has been able to meet Baringo County government.
The project technical team consolidated its strategy of decentralization with the initiation of pilot project on 24, January, 2019 in Kabarnet,Baringo County at the Governor’s office. Sustainable agri-tech development in arid and semi-arid areas constitute the core of SATDAS’s vision for the future. Improved livelihoods for the poor come through the deployment of their diverse assets in different sectors, and for arid people this means non-farm as well as farm activities. While improvements in agriculture alone cannot achieve sustain able livelihoods for the arid areas, agriculture is central to the livelihoods of most Baringo County communities, and most of Baringo County is arid. SATDAS’s niche in achieving sustainable agri-tech development in arid and semi-arid areas consists of helping attain three critical conditions in Baringo County:
- Competitive Agriculture
- Agro-ecosystem Health,
- Arid Capacity to Innovate.
Within this vision and sought-after contribution of SATDAS to achieving sustainable arid livelihoods, the Arid Agro-enterprise Development Project is grouped with two other SATDAS programme – Participatory Research, and Information and Communication for Development – as being core to SATDAS’s initiative on developing the innovative capacity of arid communities. The capacity of arid communities, together with their support institutions, to be able to identify and develop economic activities that diversify and add value to smallholder production, is considered a critical component of a strategy for achieving arid livelihoods that are economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable.
